Porterhouse

Whether these guys control their audience with three musicians in the band or five, they kick major butt. My highest recommendation goes out to this act if you like funk and/or jazz with a whole lot of bootie. The crowd has been scared to dance in many places that they play, but when people get up, the music gets crazy-good! The band is, for lack of a better term here, awesome-and fronted by ex-Rubberneck pianist Joey Porter. He plays a blend of Herbie Hancock and the funky Chick Corea, which fits ever so well with the band. The bass player is phenomenal, too. He gives his input in a cross between Victor Wooten and Stanley Clarke; no jokin' here. This cat is real, real good. Of course, with out the mega fat drummer, a solid groove won't be achieved. Check this band out SOON, man. You won't be un-moved!

As an update for this band, the have recruited the Jazz Explosion sax master, but I did not meet him. I did hear him play, and of course, he's great. I am still waiting for their website to be posted, but I am keeping my eyes open. GNW made Porterhouse a live recording at Mt. Tabor in Portland, Or., and it turned out real good considering what we used in the recording process (don't ask). Well, we gave Joey a CD and he took it to Nashville...no word on what happened yet.
