The Portland Subway- Not
your average theater performance...Previewing March 7th and
running from March 8th to the 30th, "The Portland Subway"
is a completely interactive event. The lines between spectator
and actor become blurred as the "train" leaves the
station and characters play out scenes around the audience/passengers.
Almost a study in socio-psychology, as "The Portland
Subway" rumbles towards its finale, its passengers become
embroiled in a game. Ride and reality merge as audience members
are "dismissed" -escorted off the train for decisions
each person has made throughout the ride. How will each person
react? Will you make it to the end?
March
8th to March 30th; Friday and Saturday latenight. Train 'departs'
twice nightly at 10:25 and 11:15pm. Tickets $10, cash only.
For reservations (recommended), call the

Jeff
Trott - His
name may not be instantly recognizable, but his work most
certainly is. A world-renowned songwriter, producer, and guitarist
whose resume includes Tears for Fears, Pete Droge, Johnette
Napolitano (Concrete Blonde), and Sheryl Crow, Jeff Trott
will bring his special brand of psychedelic pop to Ohm EVERY
MONDAY NIGHT starting 10 September 2001.
The
band’s roster proves as impressive as its leader with Sheryl
Crow’s touring bassist Tim Smith; former Everclear keyboardist
James Beaton
on Wurlitzer and Hammond B3; Jeff Anthony,
of Pepe and the Bottle Blondes and Crow’s Portland sessions
drummer, on his special hybrid acoustic/electric kit; and Portland’s
own Keith Schreiner (of Dahlia and Auditory Sculpture fame)
contributing his electronic sculptures to the mix. Trott also
plans to showcase different guest artists each Monday. Rumor
has it that Sheryl Crow herself may take the stage for a couple
of tunes. Which Monday night will that be? You’ll have to just
show up, we’ll never tell…. Jeff Trott.
Mondays.

David
Lipkind's Flying Harmonica Freak Show -
David Lipkind
is Portland's Ambassador of the Harp. Originally from St.
Louis, Lipkind moved to Portland in 1997, from Lawrence, Kansas.
Lipkind has made a name for himself as sideman of choice for
a diverse array of bands. The Flying Harmonica Freak Show
find's Lipkind at the epicenter as featured soloist with three
of his primary projects: Spigot (where his creative roots
partnership includes harp, vocals and accordion playing),
Mad Hattie (who employ Lipkind as pepper in their eclectic
Americana stew) and Jonah Howard (whose modern country songwriting
draws out Lipkind's rough and tumble side).
Lipkind's versatile, soulful and creative
harmonica playing led to over 200 gigs in five countries last
year and a recent discography of featured or guest solos on
over thirteen albums. This prodigious output is remarkable
for a harmonica player. Says Lipkind: "I took up the harp
at 8 years old. But my first memory is of my grandfather and
uncle sitting in the back of a Cadillac dueling back and forth
on harmonica." A third generation harp man, Lipkind didn't
realize until it was too late, that rarely are harp players
more than auxiliary in a band. He has shattered that perception
by his tasteful and integral playing. Lipkind explains;" I
may have a signature sound, but my philosophy is I want to
be a diverse enough player to fit the style of music, make
the song work. If a song needs less, I give it less." In addition
Lipkind is a gifted instructor and one of a small cadre of
young harmonica players endorsed by Hohner Harmonicas. He
is also a strong vocalist, tasty accordionist, percussionist
and a skilled arranger/producer.
